Water in some Low Areas

Fish Point Hunting Report
Sheet water & ducks

Sept 30th -2012- Bill's Area Report - Opening day will be about water. The bay is near record low and getting water to the hunting zones will be a chore unless there are heavy northeast winds during the upcoming week. There was a little visible water at the north end of Area 1,2,3 and the 40's. Ditches all around the area are being pumped up when there is water to pump.

The spare crops have all been removed and the area looks real good as far as crop and field conditions are concerned.

I seen many ducks and geese, both in and out of the area, but the major feeding area was the 70's.

Sept 9th -2012- Bill's Area Report - Everything here continues to look good. Except for the zones 3 and 23 like I mentioned in my last report. The corn is starting to ripen and take on it's fall brown color. There was not a lot of bird activity while I was scouting this morning but I did see plenty of wood ducks in the ditches. My next report in a couple of weeks will detail each area. I did not want to get into the areas this morning and mess up any opportunity that some goose hunters may have had.

Aug-5th -2012- Bill Area Report - The complete area continues to look good. But there are a couple of zones that have some issues. Zone 3 the corn and sorghum isn't over 3' high even after a second planting the same goes for zone 23 the crops are very short epically at the north end. Most of the sorghum planted in the front few rows hasn't hardly grown after it sprouted. The buckwheat looks good in all the areas.

July-4th -2012- Bill Area Report - Crops continue to look fantastic. The old farmers adage "Corn must be knee high by the 4th of July", is holding true here. Matter of fact some is well over knee high on me, up to my chest in places, making it about 4 foot high. The lowest is that knee high in the north end of the 20's. All the buckwheat and other fill crops also look great. With more timely rains like we had here Tuesday this just might be the best year for the crops in quite a few years.

June-20th -2012- Bill Area Report - Took a crop tour today to see how the area looks and how the crops are fairing during this warm summer. I have some great news the crops look absolutely fabulous, no matter the area. Also some of the crops that are planted between the areas have been planted and some is already begriming to spout.

May-19th -2012- Bill Area Report - Took a quick crop tour of the area this morning and most fields seem to be planted at this time. The north field Area 20 thru 32 has been tiled this will help drain water off quicker, so it can dry out faster allowing the crops to be planted earlier in the spring.

Seen a few geese with their young feeding in the north field.

Mar-25th -2012- Bill Area Report -It looks like the majority of migrating canada geese have pushed on but there are still plenty of local geese left to view.

The great news is there are a lot of mallards currently in the area. I Viewed a small duck tornado, which looked to be about 1000 birds in the worked up corn field with another 1000 or so, circling overhead.

There are Sand Hill Cranes and Swans also around the area.

Good Viewing!

Mar-17th -2012- Bill Area Report - Visited the area this morning after having received an email earlier in the week letting me know that it looked like the peak of the spring migration was here.

There are plenty of birds to view currently, but with warm weather predicted for next week the birds that are left just might take off.

Peak activity was at 8am with flocks of geese and swans coming off of the Saginaw Bay to feed in the fields.

Many geese are paired up and look to be setting up home.

Plenty of mallards and other species of ducks and swans still in the area.
